Choose Elite Athletes for training
Original Reporting by Robert Herron
Most athletes dream of playing at a professional level, but not all of them are capability of this goal.
This may be because a lot of them do not put enough effort into doing so. Within the select few of the athletes that are actually dedicated, about half of them get the training required to dominate at their position.
This is possible when an athlete pays attention to detail. Every muscle in your body must be trained to react in a certain way to eliminate false movement. If you study some of the greats on film they can get to point A to point B with no wasted movement. This comes from constant repetition. An athlete should also be very knowledgeable and able to use their brain along with their physical attributes. This type of training cannot be found just anywhere.
It is possible! Training at Elite Athletes with Jeff Johnson and Jay “speedy” Tatum will give you the skill to do so. (Jeff recently changed the name, before it was called Johnson Elite Sports). This is where some of the top athletes have come to train during their off-season. Elite Athletes specializes in speed, explosiveness and agility for football, basketball, baseball and track and field. Jeff is best known for training wide receivers for football. One can master their fundamentals and learn elite skills that can separate them from average players. Elite Athletes is for all age groups starting at around 8 years old kids.
Speed
Speed kills. Learning the proper running form is something that majority of athletes were not taught. It is more to running than just swinging your arms and lifting your knees. “It is very important to duraflex your foot. When I say duraflex your foot I mean you should flex your foot upward. As soon as you pick your foot up off the surface, the heel of your foot should be right under your Gluteus Maximus. It is challenging for an athlete to perfect this running form without practicing it almost every day.” Jeff says. He added, “When running, your arms should be shoulder width apart. Do not cross your arms! I tell athletes to pretend that there is a line dividing your body in half, straight down the middle and you should not let your arms cross that line.
Explosiveness
Eplosiveness is speed and power combined into one. Elite Athletes have a great machine for developing explosivness. The Vertimax is a machine that can make you very explosive if used appropriately. “A lot of training companies may have the Vertimax but are they using it right? Here I have athletes get on the Vertimax and attach the cords to his hip, arms, and legs. By doing this I have every muscle it takes to be explosive training at once. I also do not apply too much resistance but I do want it to be enough to make it still difficult for the athletes.” Jeff says. This machine is used to run and jump with resistance. you can get more information about the Vertimax machine here http://www.vertimax.com/
Agility
Cones take a big part in Elite Athletes training. There are several cone drills to maximize your agility along with mastering your footwork. “Footwork and agility go hand and hand. They complement one another. “Those who have trained with me know I emphasize cone drills and I will expose you if you try to skip the drills”. His attentions are not to embarrass anyone but to make them the best athlete they can be. If you look at this YouTube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H92ZQ15sB90 of Chad Johnson, Santana Moss, Antonio Brown and Andre Johnson (All NFL Wide Receivers) video on YouTube, those are some of the drills that he does for wide receivers .
One of his clients Titus Young who is a wide receiver for the Detroit Lions quotes “After training with Jeff I could really see a difference with the quickness of my feet. The drills we do are not easy, but I love to push myself. I believe he contributed a lot with me being able to compete as a wide receiver in the NFL.”
“I love getting players ready for the NFL draft. I feel I am very knowledgeable and aware of the things that NFL scouts want to see. Most companies do not give players the focus and attention they need.” Jeff says. At Elite Athletes he prefers groups no larger than 7 athletes at a time. When the group gets too big it is harder to correct every athlete mistake.
Jeff and Jay is willing to compromise on a location. He will try his best to make the destination as convenient as he can for every athlete that is in that specific training session. He also charges the athlete based on what they can pay. For example a NFL client will not be paying nearly the same as a high school client.
Jeff and Jay are in the process of getting their own athletic training facilities.
